Steppenwolf traditionally focuses on custom-made bikes and configures its bikes as desired, starting with the colour and a wide selection of components. In addition to an almost complete XT configuration, our test bike had a Rock Shox Reba fork and an X-Fusion shock. While the fork performed solidly on the slightly stretched Tundra FS Pro, the shock was completely resistant to sensitive cooperation. Even at warm temperatures in the BIKE lab, it only responded slowly and felt over-damped. Logically, this is detrimental to the performance of the rear suspension and in no way comes close to last year's bike with a Fox shock. At 3.15 kilos for the frame including the shock, Steppenwolf delivers the heaviest suspension in the test group.
ConclusionDue to the shock absorber, the Steppenwolf fell well short of our expectations.
+ Configurable equipment
- Poor damper function
- Heavy frame
