Weak equipment, but decent handling characteristics. It's time to replace the chassis.

Lightest chassis, lightest bike. The FSR XC enters the race with this advantage. Specialized has dispensed with the Brain technology on its entry-level range, which saves weight - 2.8 kilos for the chassis is a good value. However, the kinematics of the four-bar linkage seem old-fashioned, designed for zero pedal kickback, but with bobbing under chain tension on all three chainrings. As usual with Specialized, the geometry is good and ensures a comfortable ride without any surprises (note: frame size L is long despite the short stem). The suspension travel matches. The wide cockpit earns praise, but not the componentry. The Shimano XT rear derailleur can only be described as a dazzler in the midst of Deore-level and groupless components.
