The Scott Genius is a sporty 29-inch bike with a very wide range of use. The Twinloc system is top-notch and offers real added value in the all-mountain class.

Maximum range of use is actually the trump card in the all-mountain category. With the new Genius, however, Scott is clearly focusing on downhill fun. 29-inch wheels, 2.6 mm tyres and an extremely slack 65-degree steering angle are a clear statement for the downhill fraction. The intelligent Twinloc lever helps on the climbs. It enables quick adjustment of the suspension from the handlebars. The Traction mode, which firms the shock to 110 millimetres and at the same time allows the rear triangle to sink in less, is predestined for off-road climbs.

Tuned in this way, the Genius pedals effectively and accelerates lively. The Schwalbe Nobby Nic tyres ensure efficiency on the climbs. However, the rather high total weight of 13.95 kilos slows the bike down on the climbs. The Scott is balanced and harmonious off-road. Thanks to the high frame stiffness, the Genius always feels confident, even in rough terrain. However, the smooth ride and long chainstays limit the playfulness. The suspension is firm and could work a little more sensitively.

With 29 x 2.6 inch tyres, Scott relies on large, wide rollers for the Genius. Due to the high volume, the tyres can be ridden with low air pressure, which increases comfort and traction. However, the weight and, above all, the inertia of the wheels have to be compromised.Photo: Georg Grieshaber With 29 x 2.6 inch tyres, Scott relies on large, wide rollers for the Genius.
