The Genius LT is not intended to be a bike for the park, despite its massive looks and long suspension travel. The ideal dimensions are 40 to 60, which means 40 per cent uphill and 60 per cent downhill. Scott ascribes a ratio of 50 to 50 to the 150cc Genius. Before riding, you first have to familiarise yourself with the numerous levers and options. Left handlebar: Twinloc lever for triple suspension adjustment including fork lockout. Left fork leg: rotary wheel for lowering from 180 to 140 millimetres. Right handlebar: X-Loc lever for stepless lowering of the brand-new RockShox Reverb seatpost. There are also the usual controls for the brake system and gears.
Like the 150 Genius, the Genius LT is a very complex piece of sports equipment that you have to familiarise yourself with and read the terrain in order to optimally adapt it to it. The basic setup of the Equaliser shock is easier than before thanks to the attached air pressure table and the new SAG display. 18.5 bar pressure and rebound in position 8 work perfectly at 78 kilos. The riding position is good, with a low fork and traction mode you climb surprisingly light-footed, the handling looks mature. Nevertheless, 40 per cent uphill quality seems exaggerated. If the steering angle is too slack for you (66 degrees is definitely too slack for a "touring" bike), you will be pleased with the geometry adjustment: the change from the lower shock suspension to the upper position (see measured values, dimensions in brackets) results in a higher bottom bracket, but also steeper and therefore more comfortable angles.
The characteristics of the rear suspension are designed in such a way that the long travel is not noticeable in a negative way - but it is there when you need it. In full mode, it has significantly more end progression than the Ransom or Genius 150. There is no doubt that the LT is made for rough terrain, given the powerful suspension. The question remains as to how big the target group is that can and wants to use such a bike.
CONCLUSIONHardly any other bike offers such a wide range of use despite its long suspension travel. However, the Genius LT is a complex piece of sports equipment and not for beginners.
