Rotwild's R.X1 29 has hit the ground running. The company reports: Bike almost sold out. After comparing the R.X1 Edition with its 26-inch brother (BIKE 4/12), the cheaper version with the Shimano XT groupset is here. The character of the bike becomes clear from the first few metres: you won't win a flower pot on the climbs. Keywords: high weight, downhill power. However, the sensitive suspension spoils you with comfort. Going straight ahead, the X1 becomes an ironing board. Keyword: length runs. Only size M was available for the test and even that is long. "Almost a downhill machine," was the testers' verdict. The reserves of the suspension are enormous, the stiff, thick fork noticeably increases steering precision. The low bottom bracket means you touch down early with the pedals. The DT wheels felt soft. For the money, the weight is hard to negotiate, but the R.X1 29 competes directly with (at least as heavy) 26-inch enduro bikes. It definitely lacks a dropper post.
Conclusion: Ironing board for difficult terrain. The red deer needs a run and an appropriately motivated driver.
PLUS Brachial downhill, stiff fork
MINUS Less manoeuvrable, high weight
