Rotwild describes its new volume model "R.C1 FS Cross" as a "sporty all-rounder with a wide range of uses". That is true. With 140 millimetres of suspension travel, harmonious and sensitive interaction between fork and shock and what can be described as "reasonable" equipment (at a reasonable price), the new bike appeals to a large target group in principle. Rotwild has fitted innovations such as the Fox fork with "QR15" thru-axle and has not forgotten the 2.4 inch wide Continental tyres that are so important for all-mountain bikes. The aluminium chassis has an unmistakable look, beautiful workmanship is available in five frame sizes and delivers average measurement values in the laboratory. However, the test bike had a very slack geometry. A 67-degree head angle and 71.5-degree seat angle lead to a rear-heavy riding position and tippy steering on the trail. A bike measured later had a 69˚/72.5˚ angle. Rotwild recommends lowering the fork on the climbs, which results in an agile steering angle of 70.4 degrees and makes climbing easier. Switch on the platform on the shock to reduce the tendency to bob. When tuned, the shock needs a lot of pressure, otherwise it sags. If you need more luxury: the "Cross Pro" model offers Shimano "XTR" standard for 3990 euros.
TUNING TIP: Ride dampers with plenty of air pressure.
CONCLUSIONS: Not a mountain goat and not a cruiser. Rotwild's new bike is the most fun on technical trails and downhill.
