Pyga-Bikes: new brand from Patrick Morewood
South African Patrick Morewood is breaking new ground with Pyga bikes. Away from the gravity sector, the new bikes are primarily designed to be stable and durable on single trails.

At the Cotic stand, we were able to catch a glimpse of the first two models from Patrick Morewood's new Pyga brand. Initially, one model will be available in 29 inches and one in 27.5 inches. The manufacturer describes the area of application as "aggressive trail biking".

The suspension travel is 120/110 millimetres (front/rear) on the 29er and 140/120 millimetres (front/rear) on the 27.5 model. With a frame weight of around three kilos for the 29er, you certainly won't win any sprint rankings. On the other hand, the frames should be universally usable, resilient and low-maintenance. The frames are available in sizes S, M, L and XL with X12 thru-axle for € 1950 each and are intended for self-assembly.

A 27.5-inch carbon race hardtail is already in the starting blocks for 2014. However, we are not yet allowed to show pictures of the Zero 650C bike here. www.pygaindustries.com

Stefan Frey is from Lower Bavaria and loves the mossy, loamy trails of the Bavarian Forest as much as the rugged rock of the Dolomites. For technical descents, he is prepared to tackle almost any ascent - under his own steam. As an accessories specialist, he is the first port of call for questions about equipment and add-on parts, while as head of copywriting he sweeps the language crumbs from the pages of the BIKE print editions.
