Even though the 2019 Stumpjumper from Specialized is already in the starting blocks, the tested 2018 model of the "Stumpi" is still available in stores.

Ready to ride with pedals, the classic in the Specialized range remains under 14 kilos, which only two other bikes in this test manage. Together with the drive-neutral rear triangle and the good rolling tyres, this puts the Stumpi in second place in our uphill ranking. Despite the short reach, the riding position is slightly stretched. However, the cockpit is very high due to the long head tube. The Specialized has the highest stack, which is why we had to turn the stem for more pressure on the front wheel. In the tight bends at the beginning of our test track, the bike demands a little more effort. The competition with smaller wheels is sometimes easier to handle around corners. In fast sections, the Rockshox Reba reaches its limits early on and works a little "wooden" overall. This results in a lack of traction and composure. Compared to the competition, the spec is the most favourable. The range of the 11-speed drivetrain could be wider.

Test summary: The Specialized Stumpjumper (2018) is a high-propulsion touring bike with a good weight. The fork and favourable spec limit its potential.
