Pivot Mach 5.7
Customised bike with an elegant look, but not too much suspension travel. Manoeuvrable, but not very smooth.

The Mach 5.7 frame from the small US-based luxury forge Pivot is excellently finished and comes to the customer with nice visual treats such as anodised swingarm joints and a carbon rocker. The custom build - deliberately kept sensible - comes from Pivot importer Shocker from Kelheim. For a fair price, this bike even has the lowest total weight in the test field. But not without compromises: While the competition relies on 150-millimetre forks, the Pivot has to make do with 140 millimetres at the front. The rear suspension, which works with the patented DW-Link, also stays below the 150 millimetre mark in terms of travel. And you can feel it: Compared to the competition, the Pivot is firmer on the climbs and less comfortable on the descents - although the 140 mm Fox fork still works flawlessly. The riding position on this bike is compact and rear-heavy (slack seat angle), which impairs climbing. In addition, the fork cannot be lowered and the tyres roll poorly. On the downhill of the test lap, however, we were pleased with the chewing gum-like grip of the Kendas. Overall, the bike feels manoeuvrable downhill. It's only when things get really fast that the overstretched suspension causes unrest.
