The Spaniards (Basques to be precise) have realised that 26-inch hardtails are no longer the measure of all things. So they invested a lot of money in the development of kinematics software and test labs and stayed out of the annual model change. A bike is only presented when it is ready. In the case of the Occam 29, this means that it is already on its way to the dealer. The top model S10 costs 7399 euros, the entry-level model starts at 3299 euros. The visually striking carbon chassis weighs 2.6 kilos and has clever details such as cable routing and down tube protection. One look at the long geometry and you know the target group: sporty bikers, racers. Shimano's double crankset with 38/26 teeth is also only suitable for athletes with above-average training. The Occam moves forwards, encourages high speeds and the sporty, stretched riding position screams: "Venga, venga!" You can let it run downhill, the limit is set by the tyres, which announce the limit range early on slippery surfaces (at least they announce it). The frame also has a certain life of its own. The stiffness of 56 Nm/degree is sufficient for well-trained racers, but riders over 85 kilos may feel uncomfortable. The Fox suspension is anything but lifeless. It provides feedback, sensitively absorbs small bumps and releases the suspension travel for big hits. The handlebar adjustment is a useful toy, but you don't feel much of the platform (trail setting). Plus point Orbea: Lifetime warranty, they value high customer satisfaction and not the fast market. You can also customise your bike as you wish.
