A lot has happened in mountain biking since the early days. But many people are still into colourful clothes, even if not leggings. This video from 1989 shows how it all began.

Men in hot leggings. Downhills that current bikes can only laugh at. Tensions between mountain bikers and hikers. Ski racers who switch to the dark side of the force - the mountain bike. Hut keepers, hiking clubs and forestry director Günter Gleißner. This video reports on this, as well as the first MTB World Cups and the first trade fairs, with original footage from the early years of mountain biking in Germany. Caution: Contains garish colour combinations, BIKE tests that shook the seals out of the riders' teeth, cantilever brakes, Uli Stanciu, 80s bike slang and lots of the finest Bavarian dialect. But that's how it was back then, in 1989 - enjoy watching!

Adrian Kaether's favourite thing to do is ride mountain bikes on bumpy enduro trails. The tech expert and bike tester knows all about Newton metres and watt hours, high and low-speed damping. As test manager at MYBIKE, Adrian also likes to think outside the box and tests cargo bikes and step-through bikes as well as the latest (e-)MTBs.
