Merida Trans Mission 800 D
A successful all-mountain bike at a reasonable price. Impressive handling and chassis.

1599 euros - that's all you need to spend on an all-mountain bike. This is demonstrated by Merida's Trans Mission 800 D in the criteria of suspension, equipment and handling. Point one, suspension: drive-neutral, sensitive response, stable when pedalling, harmonious suspension travel. The Rock Shox air fork does not have a lockout, but is surprisingly sensitive and suits the rear end. Point two, equipment: Shimano's SLX groupset with XT derailleur plus Avid braking system work well. Third criterion: In the saddle, the all-round character is pleasing, the long suspension travel is inconspicuously packaged on the climbs. Downhill, however, you have to be vigilant, the Trans Mission is not as foolproof as the Kona due to its narrow tyres. If you can afford a set of good-rolling 2.4-inch tyres, the riding fun increases significantly.

ConclusionSuccessful all-mountain bike at a reasonable price. Convincing handling and suspension.

+ Harmonious chassis

+ High-quality equipment

+ Best overall package

- Narrow tyres
