Like the Canyon Spectral, the Merida One-Forty also relies on wide 2.6 tyres, which allows a lower tyre pressure of around 0.3 bar. The result: more grip and more comfort.

The wheel weight is also still average, which is why the Merida accelerates reasonably well. However, not without engaging the shock platform. When pedalling out of the saddle, the rear suspension isn't very stable and pumps very hard. Reaching for the shock therefore becomes a duty rather than just an optional extra. The riding position is short and therefore comfortable. In terms of handling, the One-Forty is unagitated. The rider sits in the centre with sufficient pressure on the front wheel. Off-road, the rear end swallows big bumps quite well. On fast, smaller bumps, however, it closes up and can no longer follow the ground, which causes restlessness and nervousness. The Sram Code brakes, which are very strong and solid on paper, proved to be conspicuously weak in this test. At well over three kilos, the frame weight is quite high. The equipment is in the good mid-range.

Test summary: The Merida One-Forty 800 is a solid all-mountain bike with plus-size tyres and neutral handling. The rear suspension performance prevents a better grade.
