Liv is known for producing bikes exclusively for women. The brand from Giant is now expanding its Intrigue models with the Intrigue X and Intrigue X Advanced. With all-mountain-typical 150/140 mm suspension travel and a small flip chip that changes a lot.

Topics in this article

The Liv Intrigue X Advanced models now come with a lightweight Advanced carbon frame, which should impress with a good stiffness-to-weight ratio and thus contribute to a responsive riding behaviour. The X models use an ALUXX SL aluminium frame. However, the most important details of the bikes are not the frames, but the customisable geometry, the suspension and the new wheel systems.

More and more women are riding mountain bikes, and we see a great opportunity for our community in the mid-travel trail category. - Ludi Scholz, Global Off-road & Gravel Category Manager at Liv

Scholz continues: "The Intrigue family has always been about getting more women on the trails, improving their skills and boosting their confidence. With the launch of the Intrigue X, we're proud to offer a bike that can tackle rough terrain while being super manoeuvrable and efficient. Together with the customisable geometry, this is the bike that allows intermediates to become experts, experts to become experts and beyond."

Liv Intrigue X and Intrigue X Advanced: The most important facts in brief

The adjustable geometry of the Liv Intrigue X is designed to allow riders to adapt the bike to their riding behaviour, the trail and the rear wheel. With the Maestro 3 flip chip, the steering angle, seat angle and bottom bracket height can be changed in three positions. In addition, another flip chip in the headset allows the reach to be adjusted between -5 mm (short), 0 mm (medium) and +5 mm (long). The all-mountain suspension (150 mm front and 140 mm rear) is also an important detail of the new women's bikes, as it not only promises more comfort, but also the ability to tackle more demanding routes. It was only last summer that Liv presented the current Intrigue with 160 mm travel at the front. And we weren't sure whether that was an enduro bike - so the answer is the new Liv Intrigue X with all-mountain-style travel.

There is a slight difference in the wheelsets: the Liv Intrigue X Advanced series comes with a Giant TRX wheelset with carbon rims, while the Intrigue X series comes with a Giant TRA wheelset with aluminium rims. The inner rim width of both wheelsets is a modern 30 mm. In addition, both are equipped with Wide Guard rim technology, which is designed to protect the tyre with a robust, 5 mm wide sidewall. These wheel systems also enable low tyre pressure without tyre inserts. This gives you better grip and therefore better control in demanding terrain.

In general, only the mullet set-up can be selected for the wheel configuration in the XS and S frame sizes: The front wheel is 29-inch and the rear 27.5-inch. This makes the rear more manoeuvrable, while the front remains fast and stable. With frame sizes M and L, on the other hand, the bike is supplied with 29-inch wheels at both the front and rear. However, a 27.5-inch wheel for the rear can be ordered separately. This gives larger riders the flexibility to choose between agile and comfortable.

Further details of Liv women's bikes

As already mentioned, the new model series differ in the frames, especially in the material. However, there are also similarities here. For example, each bike has a frame storage compartment in the down tube where tools can be stored. In addition, there are mounts on the top tube that can be used to attach compact equipment bags.

Other new features include internal cable routing and integrated cable ports, which not only give the women's bikes a tidy look, but also protect the shift, brake and dropper post cables. The drive-side chainstay and the down tube are equipped with a frame guard that protects against stones and chain impacts. There is also a transparent 3M protective strip on the upper part of the down tube to protect the mountain bike during transport - if it is hung over the tailgate of a pick-up truck, for example.

Liv doesn't provide any information on the weight - we can't provide a satisfactory representation of the geometry data here, as it depends on the frame size, the setting of the Maestro flip chip and the choice of rear wheel (mullet or 29er).
