The Lapierre Zesty is a classic touring bike for technical terrain. Frame with minor flaws.

The French company Lapierre have also inflated the Zesty to a 27.5-inch format and at the same time moderately increased the rear suspension travel. In contrast to some competitors, the slim 32 mm Fox fork is used, saving almost 400 grams. The wheels are also light and
the bike the third lightest in the comparison (despite the standard Vario seatpost). But here too, last year's model was lighter! With its sporty, balanced riding position, the Zesty covers a wide range of uses and can also be easily controlled downhill. The geometry is pleasing. While the suspension works well at normal speeds, the long suspension travel at high speeds feels more stubborn than bottomless due to the compression damping. The bike loses points due to the weak brakes and the overhanging seat stays. A flaw on the pre-production bike: when fully compressed, the shock rocker touches a weld seam on the top tube.

ConclusionClassic touring bike for technical terrain. Frame with minor defects.

PLUS Lightweight wheels, relatively low weight, rigid frame without weight limit
MINUS Protruding seatstays, heel rubbing, heavy frame; only small water bottle possible

The alternative
The Zesty Trail series rolls on 29er wheels and offers 120 mm suspension. The Zesty TR 529 with carbon frame (3299 euros) and Fox suspension sounds exciting. The bike is said to weigh 12.6 kilos.
