At the upper end of the suspension travel scale, KTM relies on wide tyres. With 125 millimetres of travel at the rear and 2.8 Nobby Nic tyres, the Kapoho should also be fun on rough terrain.

The Austrians are launching three models with aluminium frames for 2017. The Fox suspension provides 125 millimetres of travel at the rear and 130 at the front. The steering angle is moderate at 68.5 degrees and the chainstays are relatively long at 445 millimetres. In the design, KTM has focussed on a direct shock linkage, which should keep the stiffness high. The Austrians have dispensed with a pivot in the dropout area, instead flexing the chainstays.

The three equipment variants weigh between 13.4 and 14.3 kilos and cost between 2999 and 4099 euros. All come with a Kindshock dropper post and Fox 34 fork. The top model Kapoho 271 relies on Sram's 1x12 Eagle, the other two versions come with Shimano 2x11 gears.

More colour is coming to the entire Austrian model range in 2017. The brand's classic orange/black colour scheme will be joined by new colour combinations.

Even on his very first tour, he focussed on single trails - and even after more than 30 years in the saddle of an MTB, these are still the quintessence of biking for him. He spent his youth competing in various bike disciplines and later his cycling career was characterised by years as a riding technique coach. Professionally, the experienced test editor now focusses on e-mountainbikes. In recent years, the qualified sports scientist and trained journalist has tested over 300 bikes and more than 40 different motor systems in the laboratory and in practice.
