KTM Lycan 1.0
KTM's new Lycan feels at home on the long haul. A very high-quality package at a reasonable price.

KTM takes on this test with the brand new Lycan model. It is the least expensive bike in this group, but the top model from KTM. The Lycan already shows its premium claim with the eye-catching team paintwork. The wheels, fork and cockpit are a perfect match. The aluminium frame is manufactured using semi-hydroforming technology and has organic shapes. This is appealing and makes the bike unmistakable, but also heavy. The Lycan lags behind in terms of chassis weight. In and of itself, the bike has a sporty orientation. "Marathon today, crossing the Alps tomorrow?" says the catalogue, and that fits. You sit comfortably and enjoy the ergonomic steering centre. You can't go wrong with the Ritchey parts. However, we didn't like the choice of shock in combination with the Fox fork. The DT Swiss reacts very sensitively and agilely to bumpy pedalling and weight shifts, especially when seated. On the other hand, the suspension remains calm when pedalling in the cradle. Downhill, it doesn't utilise the suspension travel measured in the lab in practice and feels firm. This creates a discrepancy with the long fork. Ideally, you should ride it in the 120 millimetre setting and use the 140 millimetres as a downhill reserve.

CONCLUSION: KTM's new Lycan feels at home on the long haul. A very high-quality package at a reasonable price.
