Intense Spider 29 Comp
A bike as a status symbol? Welcome to the noble carbon twentyniner. Desirability factor 100!

BIKE testers are a spoilt bunch. Jaded types who value little because they always have the latest, the best, the fastest under their bums. Sometimes, however, there is a flash of desire in the eyes of these guys: For example, when a test bike like the Intense Spider 29 Comp rolls into the office. With its classy look, elegant carbon frame and splendid equipment, the Spider immediately grabs you. The addition "Comp" refers to the brand new carbon model. The frame set costs 3149 euros. In the BIKE lab, the construction shows good values. Weight (2.8 kilos with shock) and stiffness (68 Nm/degree) are fine, the frame is very well protected against external influences. It has thru axles, an ISCG mount for the chain guide and a Reverb Stealth dropper post with concealed cable routing in the seat tube.

The geometry suits the 29er very well: not too long, manoeuvrable enough, sporty riding position. The Spider crawls light-footedly uphill thanks to the light, stiff carbon wheels. Even downhill, the bike confidently cruises along the Lake Garda tour and shows no weaknesses. Well - the pedal kickback on the small chainring is familiar from Intense, so we'll close both eyes. Since you have to complete the frame yourself at Intense, the equipment is an individual matter. The delivered model lacks nothing. Of the more than 100 test bikes that pass through our hands every year, there are only a few that we as testers would like to own ourselves. The Spider is one of them. A luxurious trail rocket with a wide range of uses.

Conclusion A bike like a business card. The Intense combines cool looks with top handling. Unfortunately, the price tag puts a damper on desires. Blessed are those who can afford it!
