There are many translations for riot. The most peaceful and appropriate term for the sport is: letting off steam. You can do this very well on the lightweight top model of Ghost's new all-mountain platform. In the BIKE test lab, the full carbon chassis showed very good values with a weight of 2.4 kilos and a stiffness of 68 Nm/degree. The centrepiece is the patent-pending suspension system: with the Riot-Link, the shock is suspended between two rockers. The upper rocker controls the first 80 per cent of the suspension travel, while the lower rocker takes over the last 20 per cent of the travel. This ensures sensitive response behaviour and optimum end progression. The bike is plush in terms of travel, but our test bike showed a high level of friction at the rear, and we had to open the rebound damping completely. Very good: the rear end remains neutral under chain tension. With its compact riding position and manoeuvrable character, the Riot feels at home on winding trails. Anyone who loves a playful riding style will find their partner here.
Conclusion Light and manoeuvrable, unusual design and convincing off-road. Ghost's new all-mountain platform is instantly appealing.
PLUS Very light chassis, unique design, high-quality equipment in line with the price, five frame sizes
MINUS Little space between small chainring and frame
The alternative
The cheapest of the three Riot models is the AMR Lector 5 for 3699 euros. Thanks to the Shimano SLX groupset and Fox suspension, there is nothing to criticise in terms of function. The weight is said to be one kilo more.
