The most popular 2020 models from Cube have long been sold out. So it was high time that the Waldershof-based company unveiled the 2021 generation. We visited the in-house exhibition on the edge of the Fichtelgebirge and took a look at the mountain bikes that will soon be in shops at Cube dealers around the world. As the MTB range is extremely extensive, we have picked out the most exciting models.
Proven geometry, a solid aluminium frame and a Shimano XT from the gears to the brakes. For 1199 euros, Cube has put together a first-class entry-level hardtail with the Reaction. The suspension fork is a Rockshox Judy Silver, the Schwalbe tyres are fitted around Shimano hubs. Weight: 13.1 kg.
The fact that the Elite is one of the fastest race hardtails on the market has been proven by the Test victory in BIKE 1/20 proven. The top model SLT will be more expensive for 2021 and will cost €5999. In return, the Newmen carbon wheels feature the new Fade hubs and a Magura MT8 SL brake is used. Another innovation: the Schwalbe Racing Ray/Ralph tyre combination with the new Super Race casing.
A completely new model has also been added, namely the Pro version for 2999 euros. The C:68X chassis serves as the frame. It comes with Shimano XT gears and brakes, a Fox 32 SC Performance and the Newmen Evolution SL X.A. 25 wheelset. The weight is said to be 9.7 kilos.
The Race-Fully AMS 100 is already entering its fourth season, but the success of the bike - especially the TM version - proves Cube right. The TM version with 120 mm fork, more robust tyres and dropper post will even be cheaper in 2021. Instead of 4299 euros, the lightweight trail bike will only cost 3999 euros in future. In return, Cube is replacing the Fox Transfer seatpost with a 150 mm post from its own range. The AMS 100 TM is also switching from Sram to Shimano. The twelve gears are shifted by a Shimano XT, while the chain runs over a Praxisworks Girder carbon crank at the front.
The Stereo 140 will continue to roll on small 27.5-inch wheels in 2021. According to Cube, this is not set to change any time soon, as the bike will remain a manoeuvrable, not too downhill-oriented all-mountain bike. The three models Race, SL and TM are priced at 2500, 3000 and 3500 euros. The SL version will be upgraded with the Pike Ultimate RC2, but will not be more expensive.
The Stereo 150 enduro bike remains with two models with a C:62 frame (SL and Race) and two with a C:68 chassis (TM and SLT). For all bikes, Cube is saying goodbye to Sram brakes in favour of Magura. The SL version in the Action Team design for 3599 euros, which will weigh 14.6 kilos in the coming model year, is exciting.
At the Stereo 170 will remain at three models for 3000 euros (Race), 3500 euros (TM) and 4000 euros (SL) in 2020. The 29-inch Superenduro gets the new Fox 38 and Rockshox ZEB forks. The cheapest model features the Fox 38 Performance and a Fox X2 instead of a DPX2 as in the previous year. The gears are also shifted on a Sram GX Eagle.
