With the new Yamaha PW-X drive, the new SDuro has a powerful motor whose Connectivity is ahead of the competition: the system data is transmitted to external devices via Bluetooth and a "Keyless Go" function automatically secures the bike. If the bike is stolen, this is immediately reported to the mobile phone. In the event of a fall, the rider can even make an emergency call. The display of the new Yamaha drive is elegantly integrated into the stem.
At 3.1 kilograms, the Yamaha motor is light, but only a test will show whether it can stand up to the competition from Shimano and Bosch with its stated torque of 80 Newton metres. The unit is said to provide 250 watts of power up to a frequency of 120 revolutions per minute. With five different modes, the Yamaha motor offers more support levels than the competition (Bosch four, Shimano three). How many are optimal depends on taste and motor characteristics. The 500 Wh battery should provide a similar range, but only extensive tests will show this.
To ensure fun off-road, the revised 150 millimetre chassis rolls on wide Plus tyres. The top tube and therefore the reach have been increased on the SDuro, as this was the Main criticism in the EMTB test. To ensure maximum agility, the chainstays have been shortened to a short 455 millimetres. For comparison: the well-known agile Specialized Turbo Levo has 459 millimetre long chainstays. A lowered bottom bracket is designed to better integrate the rider into the bike.
The new Haibike SDuro features the new Magura Boltron upside-down fork at the front and a Fox Float shock at the rear. The Boltron cartridge originally comes from the children's motocross sector, where the system weights are similar to those of adult mountain bikers. It is stopped with Magura's MT5 anchor. The gears are shifted by a classic 2x10 XT drivetrain and wide Schwalbe Nobby Nic Plus tyres bring the power to the ground. The price is 5499 euros.
Haibike presents the first 29-inch plus hardtail with motor support on Sunday. Haibike uses the advantages of the smaller 27.5-inch plus tyres and transfers them to the larger 29er wheels. These should provide even more safety and also further increase comfort. Difficult uphills should also be easier to conquer thanks to better traction, while rollover behaviour is also improved. The 2017 HardNine from Haibike rolls on 2.6 inch wide Nobby Nics from Schwalbe.
As the "X" in the name suggests, a powerful Bosch CX Performance motor powers the Haibike e-hardtail. This is fuelled by a large 500 Wh battery. The rest of the equipment is also impressive: Shimano SLX/XT gears with eleven gears, Magura's powerful MT5 four-piston brakes and a Rock Shox Yari with 100 millimetres of suspension travel complete the build. The Haibike XDuro HardNine is available for 3999 euros.
