Ghost has expanded its Fully range with the brand new Kato models. A new design is always exciting for our test crew.

The Catos are aimed at beginners, starting at 999 and ranging up to 2499 euros. Once again, Ghost's attractive price calculation becomes apparent: the FS 8 has top XT equipment, lightweight wheels, a telescopic seat post and therefore everything you need for riding fun. A look at the newly developed frame shows that it is not particularly light, but stiff enough and colourful. A rear thru-axle is missing, but that would be status quo. The suspension - regulated by the three-stage Fox CTD system - ranges from comfortable to locked-out. That's a good thing. As a result, the Kato offers a wide range of use up to the occasional marathon start. We liked the agile handling and the finely responsive suspension, which is easy on the spinal discs. For high speeds downhill, the concept lacks a little smoothness. Others are faster.

ConclusionComfortable tourer with a sporty touch. Very well equipped for the money. The agile character is a joy to ride.

PLUS Price/performance, five frame sizes, riding comfort, agile handling
MINUS Quick release at the rear, relatively narrow handlebars

The alternative: The Kato FS 7 for 1899 euros already promises similar riding fun (Shimano XT, Fox suspension), and as the FS 7 E:i it attracts customers for 2499 euros with the electronic E:i Shock suspension.
