Ghost AMR Lector 7700
The Ghost AMR Lector is the prototype of a touring bike: reliable riding characteristics, sensitive rear suspension, solid equipment. However, the bike reaches its limits early on in difficult terrain.

The addition Lector denotes the carbon models. For the AMR 7700, this means: carbon fibre main frame, aluminium rear triangle. Weight (2.6 kilos) and stiffness (75 Nm/degree) are better than the class average. For € 2999 you get a complete, honest Shimano XT groupset and robust wheels with tyres suitable for the target group. The strength of the AMR has always been its sensitive rear suspension. If you want, you can tame the action with the trail position of the CTD shock. While the rear suspension travel is fully utilised, the Fox fork is a few millimetres short. Together with the agile, compact geometry, it lacks the riding stability that some competitors have on the descents. You reach the limit early - at least on the Lake Garda tour. However, the short wheelbase has an advantage on winding singletrails, where you can make turns. The AMR Lector is in its element in the low mountain ranges.

PLUS Solid equipment, sensitive rear, five frame sizes
MINUS Tight fork (standard dispersion?), no rear thru axle

The alternative
The 29er counterpart to the AMR Lector 7700 is called the AMR Lector 2978 (3099 euros). The carbon chassis offers 100/110 mm suspension travel and also a Shimano XT groupset. Both should be similarly heavy.

A lot of usable travel on the Giant (126 of 130 mm used) contrasts with weak performance on the Ghost (max. 105 of 120 mm used). Once again, we had fluctuations in the quality of the inexpensive Fox test forks.Photo: Georg Grieshaber A lot of usable travel on the Giant (126 of 130 mm used) contrasts with weak performance on the Ghost (max. 105 of 120 mm used). This reduces comfort.Photo: BIKE Magazin The characteristics confirm the impression that the fork is too firm and does not match the rear triangle. This reduces comfort.
