Bad news first: Focus touring bike Thron² has become heavy and has unfortunately also made a leap upwards in price. Instead of the 24.2 kilograms of its predecessor, the new bike weighs in at a whopping 26.76 kilograms (EMTB measured value) and costs a good 1000 euros more with comparable equipment than its predecessor.
The Range thanks to 750 Bosch battery gain noticeably, the New rear end promises better function, the permissible system weight increases to a full 150 kilogrammes and the bike is even suitable for operation with a Bicycle trailer approved. Practical for families, and anything but a matter of course for an E-MTB.
The new Focus Thron² has some clever details. The cables now run through the stem into the frame. The New rear end - now with a horizontal damper instead of the previous vertical damper - was already convincing on the All Mountain Jam² with its high sensitivity and good absorption. It is also noticeably higher in its travel than its predecessor. This is a clear advantage, especially when jumping off roots and edges as well as when climbing.
As before, the Thron² has Luggage carrier eyelets on the rear triangle and is therefore also equipped for SUV use. If you don't want to convert the bike, you can opt for the 6.8 model with the appropriate equipment. In a first contact with the bike, the new battery cover for Bosch's 750 watt-hour battery was also convincing. It can be quickly released using the twist lock and still sits securely in place. However, it remains to be seen whether these details justify the price jump compared to its predecessor.
In addition to the Throne², the Hardtail Focus Jarifa² a major update. The bike is now also available up to a System weight of 150 kilograms released. As with the Thron², the cables run through the stem into the frame and the bike is now also Bosch's Smart System including full connectivity and 750 watt-hour battery. There are two versions starting at 4399 euros, under the name Aventura the hardtail comes fully equipped with mudguards and pannier rack straight from the factory.
