Shimano motor, 720 watt hours, 29 inches and around 150 millimetres of travel. The brand new e-bike all-mountain bikes from Focus and Scor are almost like identical twins. Or are they? Our test duel provides clarity.

The lifts are at a standstill in the Dolomiti Paganella bike region. Yet the conditions at the beginning of November are perfect. Clear views, trails with good grip, pleasant temperatures. The latter at least applies if you keep your body at operating temperature. And that is definitely the order of the day here after the lifts close. Despite the electric motor and big 720 battery. Because between our accommodation on Lake Molveno and the Cima Paganella there are 1300 metres of altitude difference. On the way down into the valley, there is no danger of cooling off either, as there is a wide selection of trails to choose from. From rough enduro trails to flow trails full of bends and panoramic ridge crossings. The perfect area to get to grips with the new all-mountain bikes for the 2022 season.

We have the 4060 Z ST from the new Swiss brand Scor with us. It is joined by an old acquaintance that has been completely redesigned for the 2022 season and is being presented to the public for the first time here. The Jam² from Focus. The first trend can already be seen from the data sheet during the dry check. Big batteries! Hardly any newcomer sees the light of day with less than 700 watt hours. Our alarm bells ring at this keyword. This is because large batteries not only provide a massive range, but are all too often also overweight. Our two high-quality duelists prove that battery capacity does not necessarily correlate with bike weight.

Focus Jam² three kilos heavier than Scor e-bike

The Swiss from Scor have created a trail speedster that weighs in at a slim 22.6 kilos despite its large 720cc power unit and enduro-compatible equipment. The new Focus Jam² is 300 euros cheaper and weighs a whopping three (!) kilos more with its robust aluminium frame and heavy-duty equipment. At 25.6 kilos, it ranks at the top end even in the league of battery-packed range chasers. But enough of the grey theory. How do the candidates fare off-road?
