The makers at Cube were late to the 29er game. But with the AMS 29, they have put a successful package on the big wheels straight away. The stiff aluminium chassis is based on the familiar AMS platform, has thru-axles and the top suspension elements from Fox. The complete Shimano XTR groupset at a price of € 3999 is very fair. The AMS 29 is one of the best uphill bikes in the test group. This is due to its manoeuvrable handling and low weight (wheels). Downhill, however, the competition has the edge. On the difficult trails of Latsch in the Vinschgau Valley, other 29ers are more confident. The AMS is not really all-mountain yet, for that it would need more (usable) suspension travel on the fork, more reliable brakes and fatter tyres. In standard trim, you're buying a light, agile touring bike for demanding terrain. Attention: The bike is practically sold out.
ConclusionThe 29er AMS is a very good touring bike with a lot of potential. For 3999 euros you get excellent equipment.
