The classic diamond frame design disguises what is inside the new AMS 150. It is a multifunctional tool for almost everything a biker encounters off-road these days. Cube has equipped the aluminium chassis with all the technical details that are modern (and sensible). Thru axles front and rear, direct mount front derailleur, press-fit bottom bracket, tapered head tube. This results in a high level of stiffness. The fat tyres make the philosophy coherent. Of course, the Fat Albert tyres roll worse uphill than others, but you have one less thing to worry about downhill. And finally, the Cube has such sporty geometry that it's well worth buying a second set of tyres (suggestion: Conti X-King 2.2) - for those days when you want to turn forest tracks into race tracks. The marathon suitability of the AMS 150 has been retained, while the downhill quality has increased many times over. In the technical sections of the test lap, you hit the line with centimetre precision. The suspension travel is utilised well on the downhills, while uphill asphalt sections are better ridden with the platform activated and the rear end is very sensitive. You only need to lower the fork on steep ramps.
ConclusionThe formerly very sporty AMS-Fully gains significantly in quality thanks to the long suspension travel. Very wide range of use, very well-chosen equipment, fair price.
PLUS Stiff, good chassis, equipment, handling characteristics
MINUS Relatively heavy
