The Meta 5.3 clearly shows that the French from Commençal find their fulfilment on downhill and difficult trails. The (very heavy) frame was designed for trail riding fun. The slack head angle makes for a smooth ride at speed and the suspension sticks to the ground, inspiring confidence. The cockpit (short stem, wide handlebars) also provides downhill control. Uphill you pay the price: the Meta feels sluggish, without the option of lowering the fork you have to shift your weight to counteract the bouncing. The moderately powerful brakes don't fit into the picture.
CONCLUSIONS: Commençal brings a heavy trail bike for difficult terrain into play. A more downhill-orientated than touring-orientated package. Weak equipment.
