Even though the frame is not completely new and does without the latest standards such as Boost, it is one of the lightest aluminium frames on the market. Only the carbon frame of the Cube can go one better. Despite its wide tyres and generous 30 mm DT Swiss rims, the Canyon comes third in terms of overall weight. Full XT equipment, Rockshox Reverb dropper post and Fox Performance suspension are among the best you can get in this price range. The long head tube means you sit very relaxed and have to actively apply pressure to the front wheel on bends and steep climbs. Due to the low compression damping with the shock open, the rear end pumps a little when pedalling. However, the available suspension travel is very easy to utilise. Downhill, the Spectral rides absolutely safely and calmly. Unfortunately, Canyon's own chain guide rattled a little loudly when pedalling and already gave up on the first descent.
ConclusionThe Canyon Spectral is a very well-balanced all-mountain bike with high-quality equipment - test winner!
The alternative: For 200 euros less, you can get the more downhill-oriented Spectral AL 6.0 EX with a 150 mm fork and coarser Maxxis tyres.
