Canyon presents limited luxury neuron
With the Neuron CF LTD, Canyon is really letting it rip at the start of the 2021 model year! Limited to 100 units worldwide, Sram X01 AXS drivetrain and carbon wheels at an unbeatable price.

According to the development trends in the MTB industry, a trail bike in 2020 must be able to do one thing above all else: Ride like a mini enduro bike. Until now Canyonto subordinate his Neuron to this trend. The new edition Neuron CF LTD, on the other hand, distances itself from the old values. Even though the 2515 gram carbon frame (BIKE measurement) remains unchanged, the Neuron, which is limited to 100 bikes, makes it clear at first glance that it wants to belong to the downhill-heavy clique of trail bikes. The head tube of the Neuron LTD for the 2021 model year features a DT Swiss fork with 142 millimetres of travel and massive 35 mm stanchions. On the front wheel, the diameter of the brake disc increases from 180 to 200 millimetres. The easy-rolling Maxxis Foreskaster tyres give way to a chunky combination of the brand-new Nobby Nic at the rear and a Hans Dampf at the front. And the price? Unbeatable. For 4999 euros, the Neuron CF only has luxury goods on board, from carbon wheels to the electronic Sram X01 AXS drivetrain. In addition, the mail order company wants to emphasise its collaboration with the Swiss company as a development partner with the consistent use of DT Swiss components (wheels, fork and shock).

The geometry of the Canyon Neuron CF

In terms of geometry, Canyon largely sticks to the proven concept of the old model. Progressive, but not as extreme as the current trail bike trend dictates. The 130 millimetre models come with a 67.5 degree steep head angle, a 453 millimetre reach in size L and 440 millimetre short chainstays. With one centimetre more travel, the geometry of the 140 mm models (CF 8 and CF LTD) essentially differs in terms of a slightly slacker head angle and a slightly shorter reach.

How the Neuron CF LTD rides

The downhill orientation of the Neuron CF LTD pushes the total weight to 13.14 kilos. The predecessor was lighter. Nevertheless, the Neuron still climbs well. The rear end hardly bobs even when open, making the platform superfluous. The comfortable riding position makes you want to go on long tours. On descents, the Neuron is pleasantly composed without sacrificing too much of its playful character for smoothness. However, the moderate braking performance of the Sram G2 brakes does hamper the fun on long descents. The DT Swiss suspension works particularly well in the first third of the travel and filters out every pebble. Attention: The damping of the fork changes over the suspension travel, which makes it almost impossible to utilise the entire suspension travel with two volume spacers installed.

Models and prices

Despite the new direction of the Neuron CF LTD, the Koblenz-based company does not want to leave its traditional Neuron customers in the lurch. In order to continue to make sporty touring bikers happy, there has recently been a split in the Neuron CF model range. As a result, only two of the five Neuron CF models in Canyon's latest range come with more travel and chunkier components. The DNA of the CF 9, CF 9 SL and CF SL models remains unchanged: 29 inches, 130 millimetre rear and front travel and light rolling tyres - so everything stays the same. Only the equipment differs from last year's models. The frames of all Neuron CF models are identical.
