Canyon Nerve XC 9.0 LTD
Marathon racer with super equipment and long suspension travel. At the forefront in terms of price/performance.

Canyon brings its top model to the starting line of this test. For 3999 euros you get the best equipment you could wish for, inconspicuously packaged. The aluminium chassis is beautifully finished with great attention to detail, very stiff and in the middle of the weight range. The material shows that it is still competitive with carbon. The Fox fork and shock offer maximum adjustment options, while the DT wheels with carbon rims (including tyres and cassette) are by far the lightest in the test field. The Formula R1 brakes also belong in the race/lightweight category (160 mm disc at the rear!), although they don't offer quite as much power as the Elixir CR from Avid.

The Nerve has a long geometry, and the slack seat angle plus curved seatpost means you're sitting rather rear-heavy. We would prefer a straight seatpost, which improves climbing ability on steep ramps. When it comes to acceleration, the Canyon is second to none, the bike takes off like a rocket and is clearly aimed at the marathon. However, there is no all-mountain feeling. The rear suspension is comparatively firm and progressive, and the bike feels bulky in tight corners - but that's criticism on a high level!
