The BMC Trailfox is a downhill-orientated, lightweight trail bike. Price and performance are right. A harmonious package.

The name says it all. BMC delivers a bike for trail fun, equipped with everything you need (apart from the indispensable dropper post). The visually appealing hydroformed aluminium frame is stiff thanks to the tapered head tube and thru-axles and weighs very little. The low overall weight and the lightest wheels in the test group make climbing easier, but the short cockpit means that the riding position is not too sporty. The VPP suspension pumps noticeably, while the shock platform ensures a smoother ride. Overall, the Trailfox has enormous downhill potential. The suspension travel is fully utilised, the bike sits firmly on the ground and is very composed for its wheelbase and steering angle. You get feedback, the Trailfox is fun at the limit because it is predictable. It never leaves the line you've set your sights on, which builds confidence. For € 2999, the level of equipment is acceptable (Shimano SLX plus XT rear derailleur) because the riding characteristics are convincing. What more could you want? A Shimano XT groupset is available from BMC for an extra 500 euros.

PLUS Riding characteristics, relatively light
MINUS Short stem, pedal kickback

Conclusion: Downhill-orientated, lightweight trail bike. Good price and performance. A harmonious package.

Both the fork and shock provide plenty of travel. At the rear, however, the factory specification (150 mm) is not achieved.
