Spanish manufacturer Berria is the first to break cover with the new Polini E-P3+. The Italian drive is designed to make the Berria Mako Hybrid GT a real powerhouse.

Very few people in Germany are likely to be familiar with the Berria bike brand, especially as the Spanish company has so far made a name for itself with racing bikes and gravel bikes. This is now set to change, as Berria's new E-MTB range will also see the premiere of an exotic motor: the Polini E-P3+.

The E-MTB flagship in the Berria range is called the Mako Hybrid GT. GT sounds like a sporty claim, and that is exactly what the E-All-Mountain should fulfil. Thanks to a special mixture of in-house HM2X carbon weave and particularly resistant resin, the frame of the Mako Hybrid GT is not only very light at just 2600 grams, according to the manufacturer, but also ultra-stable. Tough off-road use is also pre-programmed in terms of suspension travel. With 160 millimetres of travel at the front and 150 millimetres at the rear, the All Mountain is knocking on the door of the Enduro segment.

Geometry adjustment thanks to flipchip

A feature familiar from manufacturers such as Rocky Mountain or Trek should ensure a particularly wide range of use: the geometry can be adjusted using a flip chip in the seat stay. In the slacker setting, the head angle measures 64.8 instead of 65.2 degrees - both rather moderate dimensions. You really can't say the same about the reach of the Mako: In the slacker geometry setting, it manages a record-breaking 500 millimetres in size L. Berria also mounts an ultra-long stem on the 1.8-inch steerer tube: 80 millimetres in size M, a whopping 100 millimetres in frame size L. You can choose between three frame sizes: S, M and L. Frame size L should be reserved for real giants.

Premiere in the Berria Mako Hybrid GT: Polini E-P3+

However, the star of the new Berria All Mountain Bike is neatly integrated in the bottom bracket area: the Polini E-P3+ drive. The powerhouse from Italy flexes its muscles with 90 Nm and 600 watts of peak power. In terms of weight, it is in the same league as the Bosch Performance CX Gen4: the Italian is said to weigh 2950 grams. It is not yet possible to say what the unit has to offer beyond pure power on the trail. Although the Polini drive was already presented in 2021, there has not yet been a production bike. The integration of the TFT3 colour display in the top tube of the Berria Mako Hybrid GT, where a total of five support levels are displayed, is visually successful. The support levels and other motor parameters can be customised via the Polini app. The Polini is powered by a 720 watt-hour battery from Samsung, which can be removed from the down tube with a quick release. If this does not quench the powerhouse's thirst for energy, an additional 252 watt hours can be topped up using a 1305 gram range extender.

The Mako GT is available in a total of seven model versions. The GT 6 and GT 7 come with 150 mm forks, the other five models with 160 millimetre forks. The entry-level GT 6 model with Rock Shox 35 Gold costs €6899, while the top-of-the-range Mako Hybrid GT LTD.3 with Rock Shox Lyrik Ultimate, Sram AXS and carbon wheels from ZIPP costs €12,199.
