With its new Contrail model, Bergamont is fully targeting the all-mountain sports sector. The bike has a fixed 120 millimetre travel and a sporty design with climbing-friendly geometry. The chassis and wheels are among the heavier ones in the test group. When it comes to equipment, the Hamburg-based company relies fully on the very well-functioning Shimano SLX groupset and doesn't afford any compromises. On the test ride, the suspension feels quite firm, but if you switch on the shock platform and fork lockout (on the handlebars), things really get going uphill. The Contrail also feels sporty on the downhills, which means that it rides safely and is suitable for marathons, but is no downhill rocket.
CONCLUSIONS: Sporty fully with sensible and honest equipment at a reasonable price.
TUNING TIP: fit a sensible chainstay protector.
