The Propain Hugene 2 is the most expensive bike in our all-mountain test. In terms of equipment, it leaves nothing to be desired. But what about the riding characteristics? Can the mail-order all-mountain keep up with the six other candidates for around 5000 euros?

Propain sends the most expensive bike to the test, but also draws on the full range of equipment: Rockshox suspension from the Ultimate quality class, high-quality Newmen wheels and a GX Transmission drivetrain from Sram - nothing is left to be desired. Thanks to the online configurator, you can also click together your own personal dream bike. The riding position is immediately pleasing. Nicely centred and upright, you can climb even long climbs in a relaxed manner. The low weight and the almost drive-neutral rear end do the rest. Top! On technical climbs, however, we initially struggled to distribute enough weight over the front wheel, which made control difficult. However, when we replaced the 35 millimetre short stem with a 50 mm stem, the versender bike showed a completely different face: easy to control and confident. That fits. However, the rear suspension traction could be better. Downhill, the Hugene turns out to be the perfect playmate for active riders with its pleasantly direct handling and poppy suspension. However, the suspensions of the other all-mountain bikes offer more comfort.

Conclusion on the Propain Hugene 2 CF Custom by Peter Nilges, BIKE test manager:

The agile handling of the Hugene is immediately appealing and keeps the fun factor high. However, there are more capable bikes for tough alpine terrain. More trail bike than all-mountain.
