Nothing half and nothing whole, not fish and not meat - all-rounders were traditionally neglected. Of course, it was difficult for manufacturers to present themselves as all-rounders because they could do a bit of everything, but nothing really well. Meanwhile, the pinnacle of innovation took place at the extremes: super-light, efficient cross-country bikes and downhill missiles with miracle suspensions.
The turnaround was not that long ago. The industry recognised that its customers were not just highly trained racers and young freeriders, but mainly touring riders who simply needed a lightweight, comfortable yet high-quality bike. In the meantime, all-rounders have become the innovation leaders of the bike industry. They are light, have long suspension travel and sophisticated chassis. And because these high-tech machines no longer do justice to the hackneyed and cheap-sounding term "all-rounder", we have renamed the category in our new test system: "all-mountain bikes".
