With a 150 mm fork and 140 millimetres at the rear, the Glen (mountain gorge) is a thoroughbred all-mountain bike. Our test bike for 5699 euros is the top model, which with solid tyres weighs around 13.1 kilos without pedals. The robust aluminium frame weighs in at three kilos without shock, which is also said to be compatible with forks up to 160 millimetres and doesn't even shy away from bike park use. In terms of geometry, the Glen follows the typical load orientation with a very slack steering angle. While some test riders praised the high level of safety on fast and steep downhills above all else, others found the steering angle a tad too slack. On slow climbs, you first have to get used to the tendency of the steering to tilt and actively put pressure on the front wheel on flat terrain. Thanks to the short chainstays, the Glen is easy on the rear wheel despite the large wheels and has enough pop for an active riding style.
As the rear triangle is also compatible with coil shocks, the kinematics have been designed to be quite progressive. The air shock therefore has to rattle a lot to utilise the full suspension travel. As a result, the Glen feels firmer and more direct compared to its two fully brothers Clay and Coal, which have more travel. Thanks to the steep seat angle and the short stem, the riding position is relaxed with very good climbing capabilities. Tall riders benefit from the extensively customised geometry: the chainstay length and seat angle change with the frame size.
Last's first 29er fully is a solid all-mountain bike with a robust frame and slack geometry. Thanks to the moderate reach and short chainstays, the Glen still rides quite playfully. Thanks to progressive kinematics, the customer can also ride a coil shock. In our air setup, the suspension was quite firm.
