The Scott Genius 920 has an efficient chassis and cuts a great figure thanks to its sporty geometry, especially on tours. The equipment could be a little better for an all-mountain bike up to 5000 euros.

The Scott Genius 920 is bursting with technical highlights. The shock is hidden in the seat tube, the cables have been neatly integrated into the cockpit and the suspension control has been specially developed - no other candidate in this test field has so much innovation. The frame design in particular offers practical advantages in addition to the visual component. The design provides a high level of stability, particularly in the bottom bracket area, without too much material thickness. This is also confirmed by our test bench: the Scott Genius 920 has the best stiffness values. Also good: protected from water, mud and dust, the shock integrated in the seat tube requires less maintenance than the suspension in conventional frame designs.

Top marks for the Scott Genius 920 on the climbs

The riding position on the Scott Genius 920 is compact despite the long reach. The steep seat tube angle places the rider in a propulsion-orientated position on the bike. The Maxxis Dissector tyres also roll comparatively well. Last but not least, the efficient suspension with Twinloc control helps the Genius to achieve the best score in our test series in the Uphill category. As a reminder: The fork and shock can be adjusted simultaneously in three stages using the remote control on the handlebars.

How do you like this article?

Despite its generous 160 millimetres of travel, the rear end left a rather firm impression on the descents. The rear end of the Scott Genius filters out small bumps less reliably than the competition. This makes for unease on bumpy trails. Apart from that, however, the Scott is a confident descender. The extremely high front end conveys a lot of confidence and the slack steering angle creates a lot of composure. If you want even more downhill confidence, you can adjust the steering angle 0.6 degrees slacker via variable headset shells.

Test summary by Max Fuchs, BIKE editor:

Thanks to the efficient suspension and sporty geometry, the Scott Genius 920 cuts a great figure, especially on pedalling-heavy tours. Downhill, the suspension should work more confidently. Compared to the price, however, the equipment is meagre.
