As we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As seen through the eyes of a mountain biker: somewhere between sweeping mountain panoramas, smoothly groomed flow trails, rough descents and challenging race tracks. Tastes differ, and it is precisely the variety of biking that makes this sport so enticing. The downside: there are special bikes for every purpose. If you want to experience the full breadth of mountain biking, you can either have several bikes in your fleet or the one bike that can supposedly do everything: an all-mountain. For the majority of bikers, this type of bike is the best at balancing climbing ability and downhill fun. In this issue, we have analysed eight current all-mountain bikes with 130 to even 160 millimetres of travel for their all-rounder genes. 27.5 or 29 inches? Single or double drivetrain? Everything is included. Price point: 2500 to 3000 euros. The class in which bikers probably get the most for their money. The good news first: Both fans of sweaty Alpine adventures and trail-loving downhill riders will find convincing companions at a fair price in the test field. You don't really need more bike.
