Bike lock test: 10 x heavy duty & 6 lightweight locks for travelling

A bike lock is only as strong as the post you attach it to. We put 10 heavy-duty locks and 6 lightweight alternatives for travelling through an endurance test. Not every lock was able to withstand our attempts to break it open.

Which bike locks are really secure? Our test of 16 models for city and mountain tours provides the answer. Theft protection: The security special in BIKE

It's every bike owner's nightmare: where the bike was just standing there is now just a broken bike lock. The beloved two-wheeler has fallen victim to brazen thieves. In our Security special we test bike locks for the city and on tour. We show you how to optimally lock your bike, which insurance applies in the event of damage and how GPS trackers make life difficult for thieves.

Travel & Tours

Travel report Rwanda

The small Central African country of Rwanda has left its dark past behind and sees a bright future in cycling. British adventure photographer Dan Milner explored the Virunga volcanoes and came across what is probably the largest trail-building crew in the world.

Supertrail Walis: Portail de Fully

Its name sounds like a bike park, but the Portail de Fully has everything that makes a super trail by nature: Mont Blanc panorama and a route to its namesake that couldn't be more spectacular.

Altmühltal area guide

Hardly any other European river meanders as slowly and inconspicuously as the Bavarian Altmühl. But the trail favourites of the "Radlchaosgmoa" have long been sprouting up on its supposedly quiet valley slopes. We took a closer look at the three best trail spots in Treuchtlingen, Eichstätt and Kipfenberg, each with a large MTB circuit.

Focus on BIKE Project Europe

This bike is unique in the world. Almost the entire value creation took place in Europe. Despite the global flow of goods, most of the 2000 or so individual parts come from the EU. Curtain up for our European bike.
