Many people are familiar with the science programme Quarks from radio and television. Now TOUR editor Jens Klötzer was a guest expert on the WDR radio programme. The topic: bicycle tyres.

The format "Quarks - Science and more", which is broadcast every weekday afternoon on Inforadio station WDR 5, was recently dedicated to the topic of bicycle tyres. Under the motto "Wide tyres, more speed - a new formula for bikes?", TOUR technology editor Jens Klötzer was a guest expert on the live programme.

In conversation with presenter Martin Winkelheide, the advantages and disadvantages of wider tyres for professional road cyclists and everyday cyclists were discussed, and there were deeper insights into technical issues and practical tips for the right air pressure. Listener questions were also answered. The direct link to the programme as a podcast can be found here.

Jens Klötzer is a qualified industrial engineer and TOUR's expert for components of all kinds: brakes, gears, wheels and tyres - Jens puts everything through its paces. He collects historic racing bikes and owns both a modern time trial bike and a titanium gravel touring bike. When travelling, he likes to explore unknown roads in Eastern Europe - on wide but fast tyres.
