An expensive e-mountainbike for 4000 instead of 6000 euros, a city e-bike for 2000 instead of 3000 euros: Saving several thousand euros by leasing is not uncommon for employees. This is because the state heavily favours leasing for tax purposes. Unlike a car, you hardly have to pay tax on the non-cash benefit of a job bike. We have explained how leasing works in detail here. The biggest obstacles so far: the employer must have a contract with a leasing provider. And: until now, only new bikes could be leased - with correspondingly high entry-level prices.
Thanks to the new cooperation between refurbisher Rebike and leasing provider Business Bike, refurbished bikes are now also available on leasing contracts. As used bikes, they are a cheaper alternative to new bikes, but thanks to professional refurbishment they are delivered to the customer in as-new condition and with a full warranty. Rebike is regarded as one of the most professional providers in the refurbishment business. A few years ago, we were also able to gain an in-depth impression of the refurbishment at the main site in Kempten and show here in detail how refurbishment works. The reprocessing process has been significantly refined since then and is now certified by TÜV Rheinland.
One thing is clear: e-bikes have not been this cheap for a long time. Even on cutting-edge bikes like the ones in our last E-MTB test group manufacturers are currently offering discounts of several thousand euros. This is also putting pressure on second-hand professionals such as Rebike. However, the refurbishment specialist has developed its own algorithm that keeps an eye on the prices of new bikes on the market and adjusts the prices of refurbished bikes accordingly.
In addition to the price itself, the company also advertises the improved CO2 footprint of refurbished bikes. Compared to the average new e-bike (229 kg CO2), the refurbishment only produces 16 kilos of CO2, mainly for transport. With this, Rebike wants to the sustainability ideal of the circular economy a little closer.
Rebike, founded in 2018 near Munich, is dedicated to the reconditioning of used bikes, especially e-bikes. The bikes usually come from commercial suppliers and are mostly leasing returns. The company has 120 employees and is now headquartered in Kempten.
Together with Jobrad, Mein Dienstrad, Lease-a-bike and the German Dienstrad, Business Bike is one of the largest bicycle leasing companies in Germany. Founded in 2012, the company is now headquartered in Herzogenaurach.
