For international mountain bikers, Canyon bikes are the German bikes par excellence. For two decades now, the Koblenz-based mail-order company has been winning over customers and specialist magazines with fresh ideas, cleverly designed and well thought-out bikes and good equipment at favourable prices. A combination that is certainly not only successful in Germany, thought the Koblenz-based company.
So it's no wonder that Canyon is now setting its sights on the North American market, now that the bikes are largely available throughout Europe. In order to tackle the economic and legal peculiarities of the US market, Canyon has entered into a partnership with TSG Consumer Partners from San Francisco for North American distribution. This step is intended to avoid the high costs of shipping to the USA so that the bikes can continue to be offered at such favourable prices. It should also make customer service and support in North America considerably easier and faster.
Canyon CEO Roman Arnold sees the timing for the expansion as favourable. In the past, the company has achieved annual sales growth of 30 per cent, and the press release even mentions that sales reached a new high in spring 2016. The Delivery problems (BIKE reported)as a result of which many customers have cancelled their purchase contracts, does not appear to have had a negative impact on sales. Canyon will commence operations in the USA from spring 2017.
