200 kilometres of trails and 200 kilometres of connecting paths are on the agenda for the "Green Trails Project" in northern Hesse. Completion by 2028, when "Europe's largest mountain bike trail project" should be finished. The Korbach, Willingen, Diemelsee and Waldeck regions have already delivered in recent years, and now Diemelstadt has put its piece of the puzzle in place: The trails could already be ridden over Easter and were officially opened with a press event on 16 April.
The Green Trails Diemelstadt comprise two varied laps of 13 and 7.5 kilometres in length. They consist of four trails between 1.6 and 4 kilometres, which are connected by existing forest paths. All of this in the area between the districts of Rhoden, Wrexen and Orpethal, close to the Diemelradweg cycle path.
There are five varied themed stations where you can hone your riding technique in a fun way. In addition, each station provides interesting information about paper production - an industry for which Diemelstadt is famous.
The new trails not only enrich the tourist offer, but also provide our population with additional opportunities for exercise, experiencing nature and local recreation. I am particularly pleased that the trails have been designed in such a way that they are also expressly suitable for families. We therefore support this project with great conviction and see it as a real added value for the quality of life in our city. - Mayor Andreas Fritz
This makes a total of 139.8 kilometres. The remaining 60.2 kilometres of the planned overall network are to be built in the Twistetal and Lichtenfels regions over the next two years.
You can download the exact routes to your mobile phone via an app and collect kilometres, which in turn can be redeemed at various project partners.
