Tern Bicycles has donated two bicycles to the disaster response organisation International Disaster Response Germany. Quick Haul E-Cargobikes made available. The @fire volunteers can use the cargo bikes for wildfire response and other disasters. Josh Hon, Team Captain of Tern, explains: "Wildfires are one of the most visible consequences of climate change, and @fire volunteers are doing important work in increasingly difficult conditions."
The conditions during forest fires change quickly and without warning. Roads that are still passable one moment can be blocked by smoke, debris or fallen trees a few minutes later. The Quick Haul P9 is designed to support the emergency services in assessing the situation on site in areas where larger vehicles find it difficult to manoeuvre. Equipped with panniers, the bikes can carry radios, first aid equipment, torches, water and other important equipment.
As a compact e-cargobike, the Quick Haul can be quickly transported by van, trailer or helicopter to disaster areas with damaged or limited infrastructure. The cargo bikes are designed to transport heavy luggage safely under difficult conditions.
The European Commission's Joint Research Centre recorded 2025 as the worst year for forest fires in the history of the European Union. By April 2026, 81,610 hectares had already been affected by fires, 35% more than the 20-year average. Florian Jerge, Team Leader at @fire, says: "As forest fires become larger and more complex, a wider range of resources gives our teams more flexibility on the ground. The use of small, manoeuvrable vehicles that can transport important equipment is particularly helpful when exploring areas that are difficult to access." In spring 2025, a large-scale fire destroyed the mountain forest and trails in Val Venosta/Vinschgau.
@fire was founded in 2002 as a non-profit, non-governmental aid organisation. The organisation provides rapid emergency aid internationally following natural disasters. The emergency services are specially trained in fighting forest fires and in search and rescue in urban environments. All operations are carried out on a voluntary basis and are financed entirely by donations.
The two Quick Haul e-cargobikes were handed over as part of Tern's Good Werx programme. Every year, the company donates at least 1% of its net profits through this programme to organisations that are committed to positive social and environmental change.
