The French sporting goods giant Decathlon plans to open 13 new shops in Germany this year. These include Cologne and Dresden, with Berlin and Munich to follow next year.

The French sporting goods manufacturer and distributor Decathlon continues to expand in Germany. A further 13 shops are to follow this year, including locations in Dresden, Leipzig, Hamburg, Dortmund and Cologne. With 53 shops across Germany, Decathlon is currently one of the largest sports retailers in Germany. The openings are expected to create a total of almost 350 new jobs regionally. This year, the sports company has already opened three new shops in Karlsruhe, Frankfurt's Nordwestzentrum and Berlin's main railway station.

In Cologne alone, two more shops are to be opened by the end of the year - in the DuMont Carré shopping centre and in Chorweiler. A long-awaited opening has finally been finalised. Dresden will open its doors to all sports-loving customers on 20 September 2018. This is pleasing, as this opening has been on the cards for some time and a survey conducted by the company asked where exactly customers would like to see a new shop: Dresden emerged as the clear winner.

Decathlon's expansion plans for the new year 2019 include opening two more shops in the German capital Berlin and another store in Munich's Theresienhöhe neighbourhood. Decathlon's entire range comprises 35,000 sporting goods in more than 70 sports, including bicycles and mountain bikes. The products are manufactured in more than 45 different countries. The bicycles and mountain bikes are developed in Lille, France.
