A new bike park is being built on the Großer Arber in the Bavarian Forest. With two bike parks already established on the Geißkopf and in Spicak (CZ), the region could blossom into a park paradise. There will be a pre-opening on the Großer Arber in May. You can read all the facts about the new Bavarian bike park here.

Those responsible for the Arber bike park kept a low profile for a long time. Only a few pictures appeared on social media. However, construction work is actually in full swing and some trails are nearing completion.

There's snow at the moment, but as soon as it's gone, we'll get back to planning. The trail construction company Trailtech from Austria has been hard at work. An extension of the trails is planned for the future. A second lift will then also be used. For the 2025 season, however, only one lift will be available for the time being.

What does a good bike park need?

A good bike park is characterised by a varied selection of trails that appeal to both beginners and pros. Flow trails with gentle curves and waves allow for beginner-friendly riding, while technical trails with roots, rocks and narrow passages increase the challenge for advanced riders.

For adrenaline junkies, jumplines and freeride routes with jumps, drops and gaps offer additional thrills, while downhill routes provide speed and challenging lines. In addition, practice areas such as pump tracks and skills courses are ideal for improving your riding technique.

BIKE: Hi Andreas, you've already built some trails in 2024. When is the opening planned? ANDREAS STADLER: That's right, a pre-opening is already planned for May. However, the project is far from complete. At the beginning, there will be 85 metres of altitude difference. Five trails with a total of five kilometres. That doesn't sound much at first, but the terrain will be well utilised. The Easyloop system makes travelling with the drag lift easier. In future, we want to use the second lift and expand the offer.

There are already two established bike parks in the region. In Bischofsmais and Spicak - both less than 30 minutes away by car. Aren't you worried that there won't be enough bikers?
No, we don't see the neighbouring bike parks as competition. Biking is booming and we are just one more reason to see the Bavarian Forest as a biking stronghold and potential biking holiday Eldorado. With the XXL offer, you can spend a whole week here without getting bored. Not forgetting the Transbayerwald mountain bike route, which also passes the Arber Bike Park.

You mainly want to appeal to families with your trails, but you've also seen pictures of big jumps on Instagram.
Both are true. We will appeal to families and beginners, but also offer something for airtime fans

Trail building must be skilful if visitors are to have fun. Who built the trails for you?
That's right, which is why we opted for the Austrian trail construction company Trailtech, which is also known for the trails in Bikepark Schladming and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.

More soon in BIKE.
