A visit to the inventor of mountain biking
The godfather of mountain biking, Gary Fisher, lives and bikes in San Francisco again, in the stylish hippie neighbourhood of Haight Ashbury, and is fully immersed in the city's bike scene.

Gary Fisher loves San Francisco

Travelling with Gary Fisher in San Francisco is like travelling back in time, with someone alternately pressing the Fast Forward and Fast Backward buttons. A moment ago we were in the American Cyclery, the oldest bike shop in the city. There, owner Brad Woehl proudly presented his collection of historic bikes to us, including Clunker and Fisher bikes, of course.

Gary's favourite companion is his iPhone

The next moment, Gary pulls out his iPhone and shows me photos of an illegal race in Golden Gate Park. There are over 2000 photos on the hard drive of Fisher's most loyal companion, and not a conversation goes by without him pulling out his hip flask and showing me his electronic album: "I still have to show you this ..."
